A Vision for a Diverse United Kingdom

As we moved into the 21st Century, we envisaged a United Kingdom where everyone could participate fully and be treated equally and fairly without disadvantage arising from their gender, disability, race, age or any other personal characteristic.

Today, many different indicators show us that we have not yet arrived at that place and there is still considerable work to be done to achieve that aim.

As an employer, and therefore a key influencer and shaper of life in this country, you will believe that the duties set out in legislation and monitored by government, provide a helpful tool to focus on addressing many issues. This directly affects service delivery, employment, community planning and social attitudes within both the public and private sectors and in broader society.

The Vision for all organisations must be :

  • Equality is recognized as a leadership responsibility and a mark of good governance.
  • Diversity is viewed as the norm.
  • People are recruited, trained and promoted according to their abilities and in the proportions one would expect from the populations represented.
  • The focus is on the proactive promotion of a positive future not simply the elimination of a historical inequality.
  • All employers fulfill different needs of individuals and groups and make adjustments necessary to ensure that they are not disadvantaged currently or in the future.
  • Equality is recognized as being beneficial to all groups not just those that currently experience particular disadvantage.
  • The ongoing leadership and good practice on equality issues demonstrated by responsible employers helps shape broader social attitudes.

To support clients in achieving the vision we can offer a standard half day, one day or bespoke course.
